Puri Temple Tickets in Different Colours
Dec 27, 2013 — JAGANNATHA PURI, ORISSA —
To streamline the sale of Parimanik tickets at Jagannath Temple in
Puri, the shrine administration has decided to sell the tickets in
different colours. Parimanik ticket holders are allowed to go inside the
sanctum sanctorum every day, even as devotees can catch glimpse of the
Deities free of cost by standing outside the sanctum sanctorum.
Just
as the 'paid' darshan facility is available eight times a day, the
tickets will be available in eight different colours for separate time
schedules. Each Parimanik ticket costs Rs 25. The move to sell the
proposed colourful tickets is aimed at curbing the menace of
black-marketing by some unscrupulous priests and their assistants in the
temple.
"At present the tickets are available in a single colour. Touts are
purchasing the tickets in large numbers and selling to the devotees at
exorbitant prices throughout the day. If we print the tickets in
different colours, black-marketing can be checked," temple's Chief
Administrator, Arvind Padhee said. "If possible, we will also introduce
bar coding on the tickets to prevent tampering," Padhee said.
The
temple sells nearly four hundred Parimanik tickets on a given day. The
sale of tickets touches nearly two thousand on peak days, sources said.
There is no limitation on the sale of tickets right now.
"We will ensure that only Parimanik ticket-holders gain entry inside
the sanctum sanctorum. There were complaints in the past about entry of
devotees, who paid the money directly to priests. We will stop it,"
Padhee said.
Though
the Temple Administration had in 2011 planned to restrict the entry of
pilgrims into the sanctum sanctorum, it was forced to drop its plan
owing to stiff opposition by priests. Temple officials said an
overcrowded sanctum sanctorum often led to inordinate delay in
completion of rituals of the presiding sibling Deities. The
administration wanted to enforce the restriction in compliance with the
recommendations by the Justice P.K. Mohanty inquiry commission that was
set up to probe the November 4, 2006 stampede inside the Jagannath
Temple. The commission then found that the stampede stemmed from the
heavy presence of pilgrims in the sanctum sanctorum. Four pilgrims were
killed and scores injured in the mishap.
To
streamline the crowd, there was even a proposal in 2010 to hike the
Parimanik ticket from Rs 25 to Rs 250 to dissuade pilgrims from entering
the sanctum sanctorum, but to no avail.

New Preaching Centre in Sri Lanka
Vasudeva Datta dasa: Last week we had a grand opening of a new Hare
Krishna Centre in Batticaloa, Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. With the
blessings of the GBCs and support of ISKCON Colombo authorities we had a
wonderful two days festival. The lightning board of “Hare Krishna
Centre” on the main road has now become a new land mark of the City and a
new bus stop’s name.
Batticaloa area is an ex war zone and preaching here is a challenging task. Nevertheless people of Sri Lanka are now hankering for something meaningful in their lives. They are looking for a true solution for their problems.
We are humbly requesting all devotees to bless us and support us in all ways, so that we can spread Sankirtana Movement in Ravana’s land.
We are especially grateful to HH Bhakti Vikasa Swami and his senior disciples for their merciful guidance and support.

11th Annual Vrinda Kunda Festival
BY: DEENA BANDHU DAS (ACBSP)
Dec 12, 2013 — VRINDAVAN DHAM (SUN) —
This coming February marks the auspicious 11th Anniversary of Vrinda
Kunda Temple opening! To celebrate we are organizing special parikramas
to the Holy Places of Braja. The culmination will be our famous Kalash
Yatra, an ecstatic Sankirtan procession with the ladies carrying water
pots with coconuts on their heads. Parikramas will be going out from
14-27 Feb with the main festival day on Sunday 23 Feb. Even after that
there will still be some parikramas.
Gaura
Purnima will be next year on 16th March, so better to come to Vrindavan
first, and then go on to Mayapur Festival and leave after Gaura Purnima
when it starts to get hot! February is the best weather of the year in
Vrindavan. Everyone who has come before told me they never knew such
nice weather existed in the Dhama! And our festival ends with plenty of
time to reach for Kirtan Mela (28th Feb - 4th Mar), Mayapur Festival
with Maha-Abhisheka of Panca Tattva on 3rd March and Navadvipa Mandal
Parikrama which starts on 5th March!
We
will leave almost every morning from Krishna Balaram Mandir by bus
going on parikrama to different pastime places of Braja. There will be
lively narrations of the different pastimes that happened in each place.
Then we will return in time for lunch prasadam in the temple. And on
all bus parikramas, Sannyasis and Prabhupada Disciples and their
families will go free of charge.
Then
on Sunday 23rd Feb., we will be having the super ecstatic Kalash Yatra
and sankirtan procession around Nandagrama. Kalash means water pot. All
the ladies will carry water pots of water from the sacred Pavana
Sarovara with colorful cloth and coconuts on top. We'll have 108 pots
and the Brijbasi ladies will train our foreign lady devotees how to
carry them. Even some of our own ladies who go every year will train
you! The Brijbasinis even dance with no hands with their pots on their
heads! All the ladies who have participated told me it was the highlight
of their Vrindavan experience.
After
reaching at Vrinda Kunda, there will be Krishna Katha, butter churning
festival, artika, and then feast for one and all. Then everyone can help
feed all the Nandagram Brijbasis. That day all transportation and
prasad will be free for all who come.
So
start planning now to come relish wonderful Vaisnava association in the
Holy Dhama. Especially for those who are going to the Inauguration
Festival of ISKCON Noida Temple on Nityananda Trayodasi (12th Feb) and
are wondering what to do till Mayapur Festival starts, all of our
parikramas will take place after Nityananda Trayodasi. Same for those
who are going to the Anniversary Festivals at Tirupati, Ujjain, and
Aravade, this will also be convenient for them! We'll publish the
schedule soon, so watch for it.

Dec 08, 2013 — MATHURA, UTTAR PRADESH (BUSINESS STANDARD) —
A five-century-old idol of Lord Krishna and Radha was allegedly stolen

theft took place while a marriage was taking place in the village and
the residents were engrossed in the celebrations, said SSP Gulab Singh.
The
idol is made of eight metals and is too heavy, said priest of
Radharaman temple Trilokchand, adding that it took three persons to move
it.
Two teams of police have been formed to trace the idol, he said. Saket village is located between Nandgaon and Barsana.
